Career Planning; Author: Katherine Foster

Have you ever wondered what it is like to find the right career pathway for you, to find your passion?

Over the last couple of weeks I have had the privilege to work with two such individuals.

The first soul whom came to see me, came to have a Career Development Report produced.  The individual soul in question came to me with some firm ideas about what they wanted to do but at the end of the psychometric assessment process had their interest piques in a totally new area; you could say their perspective or awareness was awakened.  So much so that the individual soul telephoned me a copy of time before the delivery of their report and told me that they had discovered a firm interest in Primary Education as a result of the psychometric profiling session and had subsequently taken action and applied to university to do a bridging course in preparation for study next year; and now was waiting to have the report delivered to put the final pieces of the puzzle into place.

The second soul who came to see me had already transitioned into her passion (new career) a couple of years beforehand and sought help to prepare her employment documentation for the next strategic career move.

Interestingly both souls were in their 40’s, the first in their early 40’s the second in their late forties.

At a time when most of us can become stuck nay bogged down in our career and life, because of life circumstances and/our mindset. These two individual souls broke the glass ceiling or pushed their way through the mud and reached new peaks, dispelling fears about starting over and/or not gaining employment because they were “too old” they simply established their goals and moved forward with confidence, determination and vigour.

So looking back at both of these souls what are the 3 qualities they displayed and how can we learn from them.

  • Open Mindset

That is both souls had an open mind, the ability and desire to look at different options outside their normal realm – however scary and frightening this may or may not have been for them; they considered, compared, contrasted and digested new information prior to making their final decisions and establishing a career goal.

  • Desire – Need to Giveback

Both expressed the desire or need to help or give back, to make a positive difference to an individual, group or the wider community, to leave a legacy.

Whilst both souls had different personality types both expressed the same need – a driving force to go within and determine how to give of ones time and/or service to benefit others rather than principally to the self.  In other words, how to be of service rather than focusing on the “I” factor.

  • Aliveness, Vibrancy, Radiance

In determining their purpose and following through with meaningful actions both exuded a high vibration of aliveness, vibrancy and radiance, both verbally and non verbally.  Or put another way they knew they had found their life or souls calling and subconsciously emitted the peaceful, warm and calm persona that comes with the instinctive knowing that you are on the right path for your soul – life.

Now this is not to say that the road ahead for each soul will be smooth sailing, in fact they are likely to experience more growth opportunities because they are on the right path for their individual soul or being.  However, it is the knowing and mindset that will keep them grounded and moving forward with confidence, determination and vigour rather than the material and social conditioning trappings that tend to overtake -overpower this world.

In closing, it is not to say that financial, social and other considerations are not important but from ones perspective and ones interaction with these two amazing souls it needs to be a secondary consideration rather than a primary consideration if you truly seek contentment and meaning in your personal and professional life.  Thus, by been authentic and in a place of giving back you are more likely to experience the riches of life and the world than when you come from an eco-centric and materialistic core.
