Last Thursday, 21st May 2015, I had the privilege of speaking with numerous high school students, parents and members of the general public at the Newcastle Lake Macquarie Career and Training Expo.
It was very encouraging to hear many teenagers, from Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens, had firm career interests and goals including (but not limited to) Carpentry, Neurosurgery, Chef, Anaesthesiology, Doctor, Radiographer, Beauty Therapist, Sports Marketing Manager, Hairdresser, Police Officer, Vet, Defence Officer and Musician.
As a Career Counsellor and Career Development Practitioner and member of the Career Development Association of Australia (CDAA), I loved hearing about the student’s career goals, providing career guidance, information on career-vocational assessments, personality types, aptitude testing, career resources and links.
All in all a wonderful day was had by all at the Newcastle Lake Macquarie Career and Training Expo; I even managed to provide some career guidance and resources to students at Medowie Christian College, a local private secondary school in my suburb.
In closing, whilst the Newcastle Lake Macquarie Career and Training Expo may be over for another year, please note that Blu Ripples has a wealth of information and resources at our office and would welcome the opportunity to speak with high school students, parents and members of the general public regarding career options, pathways, career indecision, academic planning, career – vocational assessment, resume writing or to provide or access career resources or brochures throughout the year.
